How do tampons work?
Unlike sanitary napkins, tampons absorb menstrual blood inside the body. This way, the external genitalia remain comfortably dry and clean. Since the tampon is inserted inside the vagina, only the withdrawal thread is visible from the outside. A correctly inserted tampon is located in the middle part of the vagina, where there are very few nerve endings and therefore you do not feel it at all. If the tampon is in the right place, it cannot slip out (this cannot be said for sanitary napkins, which move) because the muscles of the vagina hold it in place. Inside your body, the tampon acts like a sponge: it absorbs and retains liquid until it is completely soaked. It starts to leak when its absorbency capacity is exhausted. A tampon cannot stop your period or affect it in any way. Tampons should be changed regularly! When it is time for a new tampon depends on the intensity of your flow and the size of tampon you have chosen. During the first days of your period, when your flow is heaviest, you will probably need to change your tampon every three to six hours.
