1. What Allergozan ointment is and what it is used for
Allergozan ointment contains the active substance chloropyramine from the group of so-called antihistamines. It has a well-pronounced antiallergic effect. When applied to the skin, it suppresses itching, eliminates redness, swelling and rashes.
Allergozan ointment is used for:
insect bites;
contact dermatitis and other itchy dermatoses (skin inflammation);
rash and itching in various allergic conditions that do not affect large areas of skin.
If you do not feel better after 5 to 7 days or your condition worsens, you should seek medical attention.
2. What you need to know before you use Allergozan ointment
Do not use Allergozan ointment
if you are allergic to the active substance or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6).
Warnings and precautions:
Talk to your doctor, pharmacist or nurse before using Allergosan ointment.
If you have acute skin reactions with the formation of exudate (secretion, inflammatory fluid), the use of the other dosage form - Allergozan cream - is more appropriate.
It is not recommended to apply the product to open wounds or burns. When applying the product, be careful not to let any of it get into the eyes, on the mucous membrane of the nose or oral cavity.
Other medicines and Allergozan ointment:
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines.
It is not known whether other medicines affect the action of Allergosan ointment.
Pregnancy, lactation and fertility:
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to become pregnant, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine.
The doctor will assess whether the use of Allergozan ointment is appropriate for you.
Driving and using machines:
Allergozan ointment does not affect active attention and can be used by drivers and machine operators.
Allergozan ointment contains the excipients lanolin and cetyl alcohol, which may cause skin reactions at the site of application (e.g. contact dermatitis).
3. How to use Allergozan ointment
Always use this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor, pharmacist or nurse has told you. If you are not sure, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
The recommended dose is:
Adults and children (infants and children up to 18 years of age) - a small amount of the cream is applied to the affected surface 2-3 times a day, gently rubbing into the skin.
Method of application:
Allergozan ointment is intended for topical application to the skin only. It is suitable for use in chronic skin diseases with hyperkeratosis (hardening, thickening of the surface layer of the skin).
It can be applied under a bandage or through physiotherapy procedures, for better penetration through the skin and achieving a rapid healing effect.
It should not be applied to open wounds, in the eyes, on the mucous membrane of the nose and oral cavity.
Duration of treatment – from 5 to 7 days.
If you have used more Allergozan ointment than you should:
Since the product is applied topically to the skin, overdose is unlikely. In case of accidental ingestion of a large amount of the product, seek medical attention.
If you forget to use Allergozan ointment:
Do not apply a larger amount of the medicine to make up for a missed dose.
If you have any further questions on the use of this medicine, ask your doctor, pharmacist or nurse.
4. Possible side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Very rarely, Allergozan ointment may cause itching or skin irritation.
In individual cases, hypersensitivity reactions (e.g. contact dermatitis) may occur when using Allergozan ointment, which may be caused by the excipients lanolin and cetyl alcohol contained in its composition.
If you get any side effects, please tell your doctor, pharmacist or nurse. This includes any possible side effects not listed in this leaflet.
5. How to store Allergozan ointment
Store in the original packaging, protected from light, at a temperature below 25°C.
Keep out of the reach of children.
Do not use Allergozan ointment after the expiration date stated on the packaging.
You can use this medicine up to 1 month after opening the tube.
Do not throw away any medicines via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines you no longer use. This will help to protect the environment.
6. Contents of the pack and other information What Allergozan ointment contains:
The active substance is chloropyramine hydrochloride 10 mg in 1 g of ointment.
The other ingredients are: cetyl alcohol, lanolin; paraffin, white soft.
What does Allergozan ointment look like and what the package contains:
Pale yellow, odorless ointment.
18 g of ointment in an aluminum tube with a plastic cap;
1 tube in a cardboard box, together with a leaflet.
