1. What BENGAY is and what it is used for
BENGEY is a topical agent used to relieve mild joint and muscle pain of an inflammatory nature, stiffness and pain in the joints, and pain in the lumbar region of a paroxysmal nature.
2. What you need to know before you use BENGAY Do not use BENGAY

if you are allergic to methyl salicylate, menthol or any of the other ingredients of BENGAY;
if you have wounds;
if you have inflamed skin;
if you are under 12 years old.

Take special care when treating with BENGAY

This medicine is for external use only as described below. Do not swallow it.
Do not use BENGAY with heating compresses.
Do not use if skin inflammation occurs.
Avoid getting the medicine in your eyes or on other mucous membranes.
If the pain persists for 10 days or more without relief, see your doctor.

Use of other drugsAcetylsalicylic acid: concomitant use may lead to salicylate toxicity.
In patients taking anticoagulants such as warfarin, a tendency to bleed may occur, as this product contains salicylate.
Fertility, pregnancy and lactation: There is insufficient data to establish the safety of topical application of menthol and methyl salicylate during pregnancy/breastfeeding as recommended. Use during pregnancy/breastfeeding should be under medical supervision.
Consult your doctor or pharmacist before using any medicine.
Driving and using machines BENGAY does not affect the ability to drive or use machines.
3. How to use BENGAY
The ointment is applied to the skin of the affected area by massaging. This can be repeated if necessary within a few hours (3-4 times a day).
4. Possible side effects
Like all medicines, BENGAY can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. If any of the side effects gets serious, or you notice any other side effects not listed in this leaflet, please tell your doctor or pharmacist.
The following side effects have been reported with an unknown frequency (frequency cannot be estimated from the available data): Angioedema (swelling), dyspnoea (difficulty breathing), application site reactions (including blistering, burning, erythema, irritation, pain, paraesthesia, itching and rash), application site burns.

5. How to store BENGAY
Keep out of the reach of children. Store in the original packaging. Store below 25°C. Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the packaging. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month. Do not throw away any medicines via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines you no longer need. These measures will help to protect the environment.

The active ingredients are: methyl salicylate 150 mg and menthol 100 mg. The other ingredients are: Stearic acid Glyceryl monostearate Anhydrous lanolin Polysorbate 85 Sorbitan tristearate Trolamine Purified water
