For this age group, there are other medicinal forms containing loperamide, available on prescription. Warnings and precautions Diarrhea can lead to significant losses of fluids and salts. The most important measure in diarrhea is to control the significant loss of fluids and salts, especially in children. The recommended dosage of Diarostad and duration of treatment of a maximum of 2 days should not be exceeded, as this can lead to severe constipation. If diarrhea still persists after 2 days of treatment, stop taking Diarostad and contact your doctor. If you have diarrhea, you should be aware that you are losing a lot of fluids. Therefore, you should compensate for the loss by increasing your fluid intake. In the event of a sudden acute attack of diarrhea, Diarostad usually stops the symptoms within 48 hours. Otherwise, stop taking this medicine and contact your doctor. If you have AIDS and are being treated for diarrhea with Diarostad, if you develop any signs of abdominal bloating, stop taking this medicine immediately and tell your doctor. Tell your doctor if you have liver problems, as you may need close medical supervision during treatment with Diarostad. Other medicines and Diarostad Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines. Tell your doctor if you are taking: Quinidine (a medicine to treat cardiac arrhythmia - a heart rhythm disorder); Verapamil (a medicine to treat heart failure); Itraconazole, Ketoconazole (medicines to treat fungal infections); Ritonavir (a medicine to treat infections in patients with AIDS); Gemfibrozil (a medicine to treat elevated cholesterol and triglyceride levels in the blood); Desmopressin (a medicine to control the amount of urine excreted). Pregnancy, breast-feeding and fertility If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to become pregnant, ask your doctor or pharmacist before using this medicine. Since the safe use of Diarostad during pregnancy has not been established and due to the fact that the active substance passes into breast milk, this medicine should not be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Driving and using machines No studies have been conducted on the effects on the ability to drive and use machines. The listed side effects may affect your ability to react. Diarostad contains lactose (milk sugar). If your doctor has told you that you have an intolerance to some sugars, contact him before taking this medicine. Duration of treatment: It can be taken for no more than 2 days. Note: Loperamide-containing medicines can be used for more than 2 days only if prescribed by a doctor and under direct medical supervision. Please note that it is necessary to replace the loss of fluids and electrolytes (salts) caused by diarrhea. This is especially important in children! If necessary, ask your doctor or pharmacist how best to replace these losses. If you feel that the effect of Diarostad is too strong or weak, consult your doctor or pharmacist. Keep out of the reach of children.
