The effectiveness of Karmolis in the treatment of respiratory tract diseases is based on the content of menthol, thyme oil, anise oil, clove oil and sage oil, since all these components have an expectorant, antispasmodic and antiseptic effect. When inhaled, the volatile essential oils reach the throat and bronchi, where they are able to exert their local effect. However, after oral or external application, the essential oils are also active when their components are absorbed or - at least partially - eliminated through breathing. Menthol, thyme oil and anise oil enhance the removal of mucus and secretions from the bronchi and trachea. This effect is caused partly by liquefying the secretions and partly by accelerating their transport. In addition, the bronchospasmolytic properties of menthol, thyme oil, anise oil, and clove oil are of utmost importance in the treatment of respiratory diseases. The effectiveness of Karmolis in the treatment of gastrointestinal disorders is based on its carminative, antispasmodic, antiseptic, and choleretic effects. The digestive effects are caused either by reflex or direct irritation of the mucous membrane. In this way, the secretion of gastric juice and the peristaltic activity of the stomach are enhanced. Thanks to its antispasmodic effect, as well as the antiseptic and stimulating effects on intestinal peristalsis, Karmolis facilitates the release of gases and prevents their excessive formation. Antiseptic properties are of fundamental importance in the case of inflammatory gastrointestinal diseases. By producing bile in the liver cells and facilitating the release of bile from the gallbladder, menthol, lavender oil, corn oil and nutmeg oil exert choleretic effects, which are an important contribution to the effectiveness of Karmolis in the treatment of gastrointestinal diseases. The sedative and antispasmodic properties of lavender oil, corn oil, citrus oil and the alcoholic extract of lemon balm are the reason for the use of Karmolis in cases of nervousness of various origins. Due to the irritating effect of menthol, thyme oil, cinnamon oil, lavender oil, corn oil, citrus oil and nutmeg oil, Karmolis can also be used as a warming agent. After penetrating the skin, these oils increase blood flow, resulting in a feeling of warmth and redness of the skin. In this way, pain of various origins such as rheumatic pain, muscle pain, etc. can be symptomatically relieved.
