Nurofen for children Strawberry is a medicinal product in the form of a syrup that is available without a prescription. The active substance (which determines the action of this medicinal product) is Ibuprofen, which is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAID) painkiller. Ibuprofen is used as an analgesic (painkiller) to relieve pain, for example during teething, toothache, minor muscle aches and sprains, sore throat, as well as for symptomatic relief of headaches. Nurofen for children Strawberry reduces high temperature (fever), including fever after immunization.
Do not give this medicine to your child if:
are allergic to ibuprofen or any of the other ingredients of this medicine;
has ever had an allergic reaction (for example, asthma, runny nose, rash, swelling of the face, tongue, lips or throat) after taking ibuprofen, acetylsalicylic acid or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs);
if it weighs less than 5 kg or is under 3 months old;
is taking other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), painkillers or acetylsalicylic acid in a daily dose of more than 75 mg;
have (or have had two or more episodes of) stomach ulcer, perforation or bleeding;
suffers from severe liver, kidney or heart failure;
in the last trimester of pregnancy;
has a hereditary intolerance to fructose (fruit sugar), as the body can produce small amounts of fructose from the ingredient - malt syrup.
Consult your doctor or pharmacist if your child:
are allergic to ibuprofen or any of the other ingredients of this medicine;
have or have had high blood pressure, heart problems or stroke, as there is a slightly increased risk of heart problems when taking ibuprofen;
has a condition that may put him at risk for heart problems, such as diabetes or high cholesterol;
has asthma or any allergic lung disease;
have or have had liver, kidney, heart or intestinal problems. There is a risk of kidney damage in dehydrated children and adolescents;
have SLE (systemic lupus erythematosus, a disease of the immune system) or another similar disease;
suffers from a chronic inflammatory bowel disease such as Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis;
You or your child are taking other medicines, in particular: other medicines containing ibuprofen or other NSAIDs, including those obtained without a prescription;
low doses of acetylsalicylic acid (up to 75 mg daily); diuretics (drugs to increase urine output);
anticoagulants (medicines that thin the blood, e.g. warfarin);
medicines for high blood pressure (e.g. captopril, atenolol, losartan);
lithium (a medicine for mood disorders);
methotrexate (a medicine for psoriasis, arthritis and some types of cancer);
zidovudine (an AIDS medicine);
corticosteroids (anti-inflammatory drug);
cardiac glycosides (a medicine for heart disease);
ciclosporin or tacrolimus (medicines to prevent transplant rejection);
mifepristone (a medicine for terminating pregnancy);
quinolone antibiotics (medicines against infections);
selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (medicines for depression);
antiplatelet agents, e.g. dipyridamole, clopidogrel.

If you are an adult and are taking this product, the warnings and information provided in this section and the following additionally apply:
Ibuprofen belongs to a group of products that may impair the ability to become pregnant in women. This effect is reversible after stopping the medicine. It is unlikely that occasional use of this medicine will affect your ability to become pregnant. However, tell your doctor before using this medicine if you have problems becoming pregnant;The medicine can be taken during the first 6 months of pregnancy only if prescribed by a doctor;The medicine should not be used during the last three months of pregnancy;Medicines such as Nurofen for Children Strawberry flavour may be associated with a slightly increased risk of heart attack ("myocardial infarction") or stroke. Any risk is more likely with high doses and long-term treatment. Do not exceed the recommended doses and the duration of treatment of 3 days; If you have heart problems, a stroke or think that you may be at risk of developing them (for example, if you have high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol or are a smoker), you should discuss treatment with your doctor or pharmacist; A limited number of studies have shown that ibuprofen is found in very low concentrations in breast milk, which are unlikely to have an adverse effect on the nursing infant; If you are elderly, consult your doctor before using this medicinal product. Undesirable effects can be reduced by using the lowest effective dose for the shortest time necessary to control symptoms.
Important information about some of the ingredients that may cause a problem
This medicinal product contains malt syrup. If you have been told by your doctor that you have an intolerance to some sugars, contact your doctor before taking this medicinal product. Malt syrup may have a mild laxative effect. Energy value: 2.3 kcal/g malt syrup.
Driving and using machines No effect on the ability to drive and use machines is expected at the recommended doses and duration of treatment.
Possible side effects
Like all medicines, Nurofen for Children Strawberry can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. Side effects can be minimised by using the lowest effective dose for the shortest time necessary to control symptoms. Side effects are less common when the maximum daily dose is 1200 mg (OTC dosage).
Most of the common side effects identified are gastrointestinal. STOP GIVING THE MEDICINAL PRODUCT and consult a doctor immediately if you experience:
Traces of blood in the stool;
Dark-colored stools;
Vomiting with traces of blood or dark, coffee-colored particles;
Unexplained wheezing, shortness of breath, skin rash (which may be severe with blistering or peeling of the skin, itching or tendency to bruise easily, fluid retention (swelling of the ankles or reduced amount of urine produced);
Neck stiffness, headache, nausea, vomiting, fever, and disorientation.
If your child experiences any of the side effects listed below, STOP GIVING the medicine and tell your doctor:
Vague stomach pain, indigestion, heartburn, nausea or vomiting;
Yellowing of the eyes, pale stools, dark urine;
Severe sore throat with high fever;
Unexplained bruising, fatigue, or infections such as the flu more often than usual.
Other side effects that may be observed include: Uncommon:
Headache.
Rare:
Diarrhea or constipation. Tell your doctor if they last more than a few days or cause problems.
Very rare:
Kidney problems may occur with ibuprofen use;
Medicines such as Nurofen for Children Strawberry may be associated with a small increased risk of heart attack ('myocardial infarction') or stroke. This is unlikely to occur at the doses prescribed for children;
Worsening of colitis or Crohn's disease;
High blood pressure.
The active substance is: ibuprofen. 100 mg ibuprofen in 5 milliliters.
Excipients: malt syrup, water, glycerol, citric acid, sodium chloride, sodium citrate, saccharin sodium, xanthan gum, polysorbate 80, domphen bromide and Strawberry essence.
Fever caused by immunization: • Give 2.5ml. If necessary, give another 2.5ml 6 hours later. • Do not give more than two doses of 2.5ml in 24 hours. If the temperature does not decrease, do not give a third dose. Always consult your doctor.
Fever and pain: This medicinal product is for short-term use. If your child's symptoms persist for more than 3 days, consult your doctor. Infants 3 to 6 months: One dose of 2.5ml is taken 3 times a day in 24 hours. Infants 6 to 12 months: One dose of 2.5ml is taken 3-4 times a day in 24 hours. Children 1 to 3 years: One dose of 5ml is taken 3 times a day in 24 hours. Children 4 to 6 years: 7.5ml (5ml + 2.5 ml) dose is taken 3 times a day in 24 hours. Children 7 to 9 years: Two 5ml doses are taken 3 times a day in 24 hours. Children 10 to 12 years: Three 5ml doses are taken 3 times a day in 24 hours.
For infants aged 3-5 months, you should seek medical advice if symptoms worsen or no later than 24 hours if symptoms persist. For patients with sensitive stomachs, the product can be taken during meals.
