WHAT DOES ACERBIN OINTMENT CONTAIN?
The active ingredients are DL-malic acid, salicylic acid and benzoic acid. 1 g contains: 4.5 mg dl-malic acid.
The other ingredients are: propylene glycol, propylene glycol monomalate, methyl 4-hydroxybenzoate, propyl 4-hydroxybenzoate, xalifin 15, benzyl alcohol and purified water.

Ointment, colorless and odorless, in tubes of 30 and 100 g, placed in a cardboard box.

WHAT IS ACERBIN OINTMENT AND WHAT IS IT USED FOR?
Ointment for the treatment of superficial skin injuries such as burns, scalds, sunburn, wounds and scratches.
HOW DOES ACERBIN OINTMENT WORK? Acerbin ointment is a disinfectant, relieves pain and accelerates wound healing. It promotes the removal of dead tissue from the wound surface and at the same time helps to form new healthy tissue. Due to its special composition, this product has an antiseptic effect. It ensures the correct fluid balance and supports the healing process in many ways. Acerbin ointment is easy to apply. Its base is low in fat and is particularly suitable for the treatment of weeping wounds, open body surfaces /e.g. the face/ and hairy parts of the body.
BEFORE YOU USE ACERBIN OINTMENT
Do not use Acerbin ointment:
if you are allergic /hypersensitive/ to malic acid, benzoic acid, salicylic acid, methyl-4-hydroxybenzoate, propyl-4-hydroxybenzoate or any of the other ingredients of Acerbin ointment.
Use Acerbin ointment with special care:
if you have extensive burns and wounds, consult your doctor;
if you have an ulcer, decubitus ulcers (wounds from prolonged bed rest) or are preparing for a skin transplant, you should consult a doctor;
If you have impaired kidney function, you should not apply Acerbin ointment to a large area and for long periods.
The use of Acerbin ointment in newborns is not recommended.
Acerbin ointment should not come into contact with mucous membranes, especially around the eyes and mouth – wash your hands after use.
If your symptoms do not improve, if you have unexplained symptoms, or if the product does not have the expected effect, you should consult your doctor.
USE OF OTHER MEDICINES
Please tell your doctor if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription. No drug interactions have been reported to date. However, salicylic acid may increase the absorption of other medicinal products applied to the same area.
PREGNANCY AND BREAST-FEEDING
Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking or using any medicine. In general, the use of Acerbin ointment during pregnancy and breastfeeding is possible. During pregnancy and breastfeeding, Acerbin ointment can only be used on small areas.
During breastfeeding, Acerbin ointment should not be applied to the breasts.
DRIVING AND OPERATING MACHINES
Acerbin ointment has no or negligible influence on the ability to drive and use machines.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT SOME OF THE INGREDIENTS OF ACERBIN OINTMENT
The individual ingredients (benzoic acid, salicylic acid, propylene glycol) may cause skin irritation. Acerbin ointment is well tolerated when used as directed.
HOW TO USE ACERBIN OINTMENT?
The usual dose for babies, children and adults is:
Acerbin ointment is applied in a thin layer 1-2 times a day, after which the wound can be covered with a sterile dressing, if necessary. Depending on the size of the wound, usually from 2 to 7 g of Acerbin ointment is applied. The duration of use depends on the progress of the healing process.
The duration of use depends on how quickly your wound heals. If it takes a long time, you should see a doctor to check the treatment.
IF YOU HAVE APPLIED MORE ACERBIN OINTMENT THAN YOU SHOULD
There are no reports of overdose with Acerbin ointment. If too much Acerbin ointment is applied to large areas for a long time, mild signs of intoxication may occur, especially in children, due to salicylic acid entering the body. The signs are nausea, vomiting, dizziness, headache, tinnitus, sweating and confusion. These are avoided by reducing the dose. Salicylic acid in high doses can cause small hemorrhages and increase bleeding time.
IF YOU FORGET TO USE ACERBIN OINTMENT
Continue to apply the usual amount of the product without increasing the dose.
IF YOU STOP USING ACERBIN OINTMENT
If you have any further questions on the use of this product, ask your doctor or pharmacist. POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS Like all medicines, Acerbin ointment can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. If any of these side effects get serious, or if you notice any side effects not listed in this leaflet, please tell your doctor or pharmacist. After applying Acerbin ointment, a temporary feeling of warmth may often be experienced, after which the patient notices rapid and lasting pain relief. In rare cases, a slight redness may occur on the healthy tissue immediately surrounding the treated wounds. .
Very rarely, a previously unknown allergic hypersensitivity reaction (contact sensitization) to salicylic acid may occur. Methyl-4-hydroxybenzoate and propyl-4-hydroxybenzoate may cause hypersensitivity reactions, including delayed reactions.
STORAGE OF ACERBIN OINTMENT
This medicinal product does not require any special storage conditions. Keep it out of the sight and reach of children.
Do not use Acerbin ointment after the expiry date which is stated on the carton after /EXP/. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month. Medicines should not be thrown away via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines you no longer need. These measures will help to protect the environment.
