Espumisan 40 mg x 25 capsules Berlin-Chemie is a non-prescription medicinal product containing the active substance simethicone, which is used for bloating, flatulence and abdominal heaviness and as an additional tool for imaging diagnostics. Excessive formation and accumulation of gases in the stomach and intestines causes abdominal discomfort and is characterized by complaints such as bloating and an unpleasant feeling of heaviness. The accumulated gases form a small-bubble foam with high surface tension. Espumisan 40 mg x 25 capsules Berlin-Chemie quickly and effectively reduces the tension of the gas bubbles and breaks down the small-bubble foam, thus allowing the released gases to be reabsorbed by the intestinal wall and excreted from the body naturally. The action of Espumisan is purely physical, as it does not change chemical reactions and is pharmacologically and physiologically inactive, does not interact with microorganisms and enzymes. Espumisan does not affect digestion and does not change the acidity levels in the stomach. Espumizan is not absorbed and is excreted unchanged.
Application:
For the symptomatic treatment of complaints related to gas in the stomach or intestines, for example flatulence (flatulence) or bloating and a feeling of fullness.
In preparation for imaging of the stomach and intestines, such as X-rays and ultrasound.
Espumizan is used to treat children from 6 years of age, adolescents and adults.
You should consult a doctor if you do not feel better or your condition worsens.
 
The active substance is: simethicone.
One Espumisan* soft capsule contains 40 mg of simethicone.
The other ingredients are: Methyl parahydroxybenzoate (E 218) [Ph. Eur], gelatin, glycerol (85 percent), quinoline yellow (E 104), sunset yellow FCF (E 110).
 
How to take Espumizan
Always take this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. If you are not sure, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
Dosage
The recommended dose is:
For the symptomatic treatment of gas-related complaints in the stomach or intestines, e.g. flatulence (flatulence) or bloating and a feeling of fullness:
Age Dosage Frequency of administration
Children from 6 years, adolescents and adults 2 capsules (equivalent to 80 mg simethicone) 3 to 4 times daily
When preparing for imaging of the stomach and intestines, such as X-ray and ultrasound:
2 soft capsules of Espumisan 3 times the day before the test and 2 soft capsules in the morning on the day of the test.
Use in children
Espumisan* is not recommended for children under 6 years of age and newborns. Other pharmaceutical forms are suitable.
Method of administration
Take Espumizan during or after meals, and if necessary, before bedtime.
Note: It is also possible to take Espumizan after surgery.
Take Espumizan* as long as you have complaints.
If necessary, Espumisan can be used for a long time. However, if the complaints persist, please see “Warnings and precautions” in section 2.
Please consult your doctor or pharmacist if you think the effect of Espumisan is too strong or too weak.
If you take more Espumisan than you should
No harmful effects are expected in the event of an overdose of Espumisan. Even large amounts of Espumisan are tolerated without problems.
The active ingredient in Espumisan, simethicone, causes the breakdown of gas bubbles in the stomach and intestines in a completely physical way. Simethicone does not enter the bloodstream.
If you forget to take Espumizan
You can take the missed dose at any time.
If you stop taking Espumisan
You may experience symptoms again after stopping Espumizan.

What you need to know before taking Espumisan®
Do not take Espumizan®
if you are allergic to simethicone, sunset yellow FCF (E 110), methyl parahydroxybenzoate (E 218) or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6)
Warnings and precautions
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Espumisan*
Gas-related complaints can also be a sign of more serious stomach or intestinal problems. Symptoms may include:
feeling of heaviness and fullness
burping
intestinal rumbling
swelling
If these symptoms appear and/or persist for a long time, you should see a doctor. He or she will check whether you have an illness that requires other treatment.
Other medicines and Espumisan
There are no known interactions with other drugs.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to become pregnant, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine.
No negative effects are expected if Espumisan is taken during pregnancy and breastfeeding, since the active substance simethicone does not pass from the stomach and intestines into the bloodstream. However, there are no clinical data on the use of Espumisan in pregnant women.
Driving and using machines
Espumizan has no or negligible influence on the ability to drive and use machines.
Possible side effects
To date, no adverse drug reactions associated with the use of Espumizan have been observed.
Espumisan contains the colouring agent sunset yellow FCF (E 110), which may cause allergic reactions.
Espumisan contains the preservative methyl parahydroxybenzoate (E 218), which may cause allergic reactions (possibly delayed).
