Flavamed anti-cough 30 mg x 20 tablets
Flavamed 30mg x 20 tablets Berlin-Chemie is a mucolytic drug (liquefies thick bronchial secretions) for respiratory tract diseases. Flavamed cough tablets are indicated for adults, adolescents and children over 6 years of age. It is used for acute or chronic diseases of the lungs and bronchi, accompanied by the formation of thick bronchial secretions (mucus). Flavamed 30mg x 20 tablets Berlin-Chemie liquefies thick bronchial secretions and allows for easier excretion by coughing.
The active substance is ambroxol hydrochloride.
One tablet contains 30 mg of ambroxol hydrochloride.
The other ingredients are: lactose monohydrate, corn starch, powdered cellulose, croscarmellose sodium, povidone K 30, magnesium stearate.
How to take Flavamed® cough tablets:
Always take this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. If you are not sure, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
Unless your doctor has prescribed otherwise, the following instructions for Flavamed® cough tablets should be taken into account. Please follow the instructions for use, otherwise Flavamed® cough tablets may not have the expected effect.
The recommended dose is:
Age Single dose /Maximum daily dose
Children 6-12 years: ½ tablet 2-3 times daily (equivalent to 2-3 times 15 mg ambroxol hydrochloride) / 1½ tablets (equivalent to 45 mg ambroxol hydrochloride)
Adolescents over 12 years of age and adults: 1 tablet 3 times daily (equivalent to 3 times 30 mg ambroxol hydrochloride) during the first 2 to 3 days, then continue with 1 tablet 2 times daily (equivalent to 2 times 30 mg ambroxol hydrochloride) / 3 tablets (equivalent to 90 mg ambroxol hydrochloride)
Note:
In adult patients, the daily dose may be increased to 2 tablets 2 times a day.
Method of application:
For oral administration. It is best to take Flavamed® cough tablets whole after a meal with plenty of liquid (e.g. water, tea or fruit juice).
The tablet can be divided into two equal doses.
Duration of application:
Flavamed® cough tablets should not be used for more than 4-5 days without consulting a doctor.
If your symptoms do not improve after 4-5 days of treatment or even worsen, see a doctor immediately!
Please tell your doctor or pharmacist if you feel that the effect of Flavamed® cough tablets is too strong or too weak.
If you take more Flavamed® cough tablets than you should:
No specific symptoms of overdose in humans have been reported to date. Based on accidental overdose and/or reports of medical errors, the observed symptoms are consistent with the known adverse reactions of ambroxol hydrochloride at recommended doses and may require symptomatic treatment. Consult a doctor.
If you forget to take Flavamed® cough tablets:
or you have taken a very small dose, take the medicine at the prescribed dose at the next scheduled time. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose.

What you should know before taking Flavamed® cough tablets:
Do not take Flavamed® cough tablets:
– if you are allergic to ambroxol hydrochloride or any of the other ingredients of this medicine
– in children under 6 years of age.
Warnings and precautions:
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Flavamed® cough tablets.
– If you have had very severe skin hypersensitivity reactions (Stevens-Johnson syndrome, Lyell's syndrome);
Stevens-Johnson syndrome is a disease with high fever and rashes on the skin and mucous membranes with blistering.
Lyell's syndrome is a life-threatening condition, also known as scalded skin syndrome. It is characterized by the appearance of large blisters, similar to a burn.
There have been reports of severe skin reactions associated with the use of ambroxol. If you develop a skin rash (including lesions of the mucous membranes, e.g. mouth, throat, nose, eyes, genitals), stop using Flavamed® cough tablets and call your doctor immediately.
– If you suffer from impaired kidney function or severe liver disease. In this case, Flavamed® cough tablets can only be used with special care (e.g. at longer intervals or in a reduced dose - consult your doctor about this). In severely impaired kidney function, an accumulation of breakdown products of the active substance of Flavamed® cough tablets may occur;
– If you suffer from a rare disease of the bronchi with increased mucus production (e.g. immobile cilia syndrome). Then the mucus cannot be separated from the lungs. In this case Flavamed® cough tablets can only be used under medical supervision;
– If you have had peptic ulcer disease, you should consult your doctor about taking Flavamed® cough tablets, because mucolytics can irritate the stomach lining. Consult your doctor before taking Flavamed® cough tablets.
Children:
Flavamed® cough tablets can only be taken by children over 6 years of age.
Other medicines Flavamed® cough tablets:
No clinically significant adverse interactions with other drugs have been reported.
Pregnancy, lactation and fertility:
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to become pregnant, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine.
During pregnancy or breastfeeding, you can take Flavamed® cough tablets only according to the exact instructions of your doctor!
The use of Flavamed® cough tablets is not recommended, especially during the first trimester.
It has been established that the active substance of Flavamed® cough tablets passes into breast milk. The use of Flavamed® cough tablets is not recommended during breastfeeding. Animal studies do not indicate harmful effects of ambroxol on fertility.
Driving and using machines:
There is no evidence of an effect on driving and using machines. No studies have been conducted on the effects on driving and using machines.
Flavamed® cough tablets contain lactose (milk sugar).
If you have been told by your doctor that you have an intolerance to some sugars, contact your doctor before taking this medicine.
Possible side effects:
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Common: (may affect up to 1 in 10 people):
– nausea
Uncommon: (may affect up to 1 in 100 people):
– stomach pain, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain and dyspepsia
Rare: (may affect up to 1 in 1,000 people):
– hypersensitivity reactions
– rash, urticaria
Not known: (frequency cannot be estimated from the available data):
– anaphylactic reactions, including anaphylactic shock, angioedema (rapidly developing swelling of the skin, subcutaneous tissue, mucous membranes or submucosal layer) and pruritus
– severe skin adverse reactions (including erythema multiforme, Stevens-Johnson syndrome/toxic epidermal necrolysis and acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis).
Precautions:
If you notice that you have one or more of the side effects listed above, discontinue treatment with Flavamed® cough tablets immediately.

If you get any side effects, tell your doctor or pharmacist. This includes any possible side effects not listed in this leaflet.
By reporting side effects, you can help provide more information about the safety of this medicine.
How to store Flavamed® cough tablets:
Keep out of the reach of children.
Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the blister and carton after “EXP”. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.
Store below 25°C.
Do not throw away any medicines via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines you no longer use. This will help to protect the environment.
If you do not feel better after 4 to 5 days or your condition worsens, you should seek medical attention.
