Duphalac syrup for constipation 200 ml Mylan is a high-quality non-prescription medicine designed to relieve constipation. Duphalac syrup for constipation 200 ml Mylan is distinguished by its special formula with a laxative known as lactulose. Duphalac is recommended in cases of difficulty defecating or the presence of dry and hard stools. Taking the syrup softens the stool. The product is also recommended for hemorrhoids, for the period after surgery on the anus or the lower parts of the colon. The syrup also helps in the treatment of hepatic encephalopathy or systemic portal encephalopathy, which is a liver disease that causes slowed thinking, tremors, changes in consciousness, coma.
What to know before taking Duphalac
Do not take Duphalac:
if you are allergic to lactulose or any of the other ingredients of this medicine;
if you suffer from galactosemia (a rare genetic disease in which you cannot digest galactose);
in cases of gastrointestinal obstruction (other than normal constipation);
in case of gastrointestinal perforation or risk of perforation.
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Duphalac if:
you suffer from abdominal pain;
you cannot digest lactose;
you suffer from diabetes.
Do not take Duphalac if you suffer from:
intolerance to galactose or fructose;
general lactose deficiency;
glucose-galactose malabsorption.
If you have diabetes and are being treated for hepatic encephalopathy, your dose of Duphalac will be higher. This higher dose contains a large amount of sugar. Therefore, the dose of your antidiabetic medicine may need to be adjusted.
Continued use of an inappropriate dose (leading to more than 2-3 soft stools per day) or improper use may lead to diarrhea and electrolyte imbalance.
Please do not take Duphalac without a doctor's recommendation for more than 2 weeks.
During treatment with laxatives, you should drink plenty of fluids.
If your condition does not improve after a few days of treatment or your symptoms worsen, consult a doctor.
Children
In certain circumstances, a doctor may prescribe Duphalac for your child, infant or baby. In these cases, the doctor will carefully monitor the treatment. Duphalac should only be given to newborns and young children with the approval of a doctor because it may affect normal bowel movements.
Other medicines and Duphalac
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines.
Duphalac with food, drink and alcohol
Duphalac can be taken with or without food. There are no restrictions on what food and drinks you can consume.
Pregnancy, breastfeeding and fertility
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to become pregnant, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking Duphalac.
Duphalac can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. No effects on fertility are expected.
Driving and using machines
Duphalac has no or negligible influence on the ability to drive and use machines.
Important information about some of the ingredients of Duphalac
Duphalac contains milk sugar (lactose), galactose and fructose from the synthesis pathway. Lactulose should be administered with caution to patients with lactose intolerance.
If your doctor has told you that you have an intolerance to some sugars, please contact your doctor before taking this medicine.
Possible side effects
Like all medicines, this can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Very common side effects (between 1 and 10 patients in every 10 treated):
diarrhea
Common side effects (between 1 and 10 patients in every 100 treated):
flatulence (abdominal bloating);
nausea;
vomiting;
abdominal pain;
Uncommon side effects (between 1 and 10 patients in every 1,000 treated):
electrolyte imbalance due to diarrhea
Abdominal bloating occurs during the first few days of treatment. It usually disappears after a few days. When doses are higher than recommended, abdominal pain and diarrhea may occur. In these cases, the dose should be reduced.
If you use high doses (which is only common in hepatic encephalopathy) for a longer period of time, you may experience electrolyte imbalance due to diarrhea.

Take the syrup at the same time every day.
Swallow the medicine quickly, do not hold it in your mouth.
You can take Duphalac undiluted or diluted with liquid.
Use the measuring cup for dosing.
After a few days, the starting dose can be changed to a maintenance dose based on your body's response. It takes 2-3 days of consistent intake to feel the effect.

Use in children

Dosage in hepatic encephalopathy
In adults
The initial dose is 30-45 ml of oral solution, 3 to 4 times a day.
This dose may be changed to a maintenance dose to ensure the passage of soft stools 2-3 times daily.
In children
No data are available on the treatment of subjects under 18 years of age with hepatic encephalopathy.
Use in elderly patients and patients with renal or hepatic insufficiency
There are no specific recommended dosages.
If you take more Duphalac than you should
If you take more Duphalac than you should, you may have diarrhea, abdominal pain, and loss of electrolytes.
Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have taken a higher dose of Duphalac.
If you forget to take Duphalac
Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose.
If you stop taking Duphalac
Do not stop or change your treatment before consulting your doctor or pharmacist.
