1. What is EXPECTORANCE No. 5 and what is it used for? EXPECTORANCE No. 5 has an expectorant and antimicrobial effect, relaxes the smooth muscles of the bronchi. The effects are associated with the action of each of the ingredients separately and as a whole. The medicinal substances have a softening effect and suppress the cough reflex, facilitate expectoration, have an antimicrobial effect and relax smooth muscle spasms; the effect of potassium bromide is soothing, and sodium benzoate and ammonium chloride liquefy phlegm.
EXPECTORANCE No. 5 is intended for symptomatic treatment of cough in bronchitis, asthma and inflammatory diseases of the upper respiratory tract.
2. What you need to know before taking EXPECTORANCE No. 5 Please consult your doctor if any of the following situations occur:
Do not take EXPECTORANCE No. 5 if:

data on hypersensitivity (allergy) to any of the ingredients;
in patients with acute and chronic liver and kidney diseases;
hypersensitivity to aspirin (aspirin-induced asthma);
acid-base balance disorders;
pregnancy and breastfeeding;
children under 12 years of age.

Warnings and precautions

In order to achieve the expected therapeutic effect from the administration of the drug and to avoid the occurrence of adverse drug reactions to the greatest extent possible, it is necessary to strictly adhere to the recommended dosages and duration of treatment.
It should be used with caution in patients who are being treated with CNS depressants (hypnotics, for the treatment of neurosis).
Irritating to eyes upon direct contact (sodium benzoate).
The medicinal product contains glycerol, which is harmful in high doses and can cause stomach irritation and diarrhoea.
The medicinal product contains sorbitol. When administered according to the dosage recommendations, each dose provides 1.95 g of sorbitol (6 g daily). Not suitable for people with hereditary fructose intolerance. May cause gastric irritation and diarrhoea.
Due to its ethanol content (up to 1.6 g/100 g or up to 0.16 g per dose), it may pose a danger to children under 12 years of age, people with brain damage and those suffering from liver disease; epilepsy, alcoholism.
In the absence of a therapeutic effect after 7 days of use, deterioration of the condition, change in the nature of the cough or increase in body temperature, immediate consultation with a doctor is required.

Taking EXPECTORANCE No. 5 with other medications The medicinal product is rich in mucilage (liquid extract of medicinal marshmallow) and when used simultaneously with other medications may slow their absorption. EXPECTORANCE No. 5 should be taken at least 2 hours apart from other medications. Do not use it simultaneously with other medications.
Taking EXPECTORANCE No. 5 with food and drinks EXPECTORANCE No. 5 should be taken after meals.
Pregnancy, breast-feeding and fertilityPregnancy and breast-feedingInform your doctor if you think you are pregnant or think you may be pregnant. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.It is not recommended to take EXPECTORANCE No. 5 during pregnancy and breast-feeding.
Driving and using machines EXPECTORANCE No. 5 may cause drowsiness and impaired attention when performing activities requiring increased attention, concentration and speed of reactions. Careful monitoring and assessment of the condition of drivers of motor vehicles and those operating machinery is necessary, especially in the first days of taking it.
3. How to take EXPECTORANCE No. 5 Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions.
For adults and children over 12 years of age, take EXPECTORANCE No. 5 10 ml (2 teaspoons) 3 times a day after meals. Treatment can last 7-10 days. If your condition does not improve or worsens during treatment, seek medical attention.
If you take more than the required dose Take EXPECTORANCE No. 5 only as prescribed. When taking high doses (many times higher than recommended), the following symptoms of overdose may occur: nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, drowsiness, irritability, tremors, hallucinations, impaired acid-base balance.
If you accidentally take a higher dose of EXPECTORANCE No. 5, consult your doctor or pharmacist immediately.
If you forget to take EXPECTORANCE No. 5 If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Never take a double dose to make up for a missed dose.

4. Possible side effects Like all medicines, EXPECTORANCE No. 5 can cause side effects, although not everyone gets them.
During treatment with EXPECTORANCE No. 5, rarely and especially at the beginning, the following side effects are possible: nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, hypersensitivity reactions (allergy) - rashes.
If any of the side effects becomes serious or you notice any other side effects not listed in this leaflet, please tell your doctor or pharmacist.

5. How to store EXPECTORANCE No. 5 Keep out of the reach of children! Do not use after the expiry date stated on the packaging. The expiry date refers to the last day of the month indicated. Store in the original packaging at a temperature below 25°C in order to protect from light and moisture. Shelf life: 2 (two) years from the date of manufacture. Shelf life after first opening the packaging: 7 days at a temperature below 25°C.
6. Contents of the package and additional information What EXPECTORANCE No5® contains The active ingredients are: Rose, liquid root extract, Sodium benzoate, Potassium bromide, Ammonium chloride; Excipients: wild thyme extract, anise oil, glycerol, sorbitol, ethanol, polysorbate 80, poloxamer 188 and purified water.
EXPECTORANS No. 5 is available in the form of syrup for oral administration in the following types of packaging:

100 ml dark glass or polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottle, tightly closed with a polyethylene screw cap or a polyethylene screw cap with a dropper stopper. The 100 ml bottle contains 90 ml of syrup.
125 ml dark glass bottle (hydrolytic class III), tightly closed with a polyethylene cap and equipped with a dosing cup (2.5 ml - 20 ml). The 125 ml bottle contains 120 ml of syrup.
